The Role

The 'Financial Accountant – Balance Sheet & Transformation Support (Regional)' is responsible for supporting the integrity, accuracy, and reliability of balance sheet accounts across Europe, UK and APAC entities through detailed reconciliation, analysis, and issue resolution.

Working closely with the Balance Sheet Lead Accountant, this role executes regional balance sheet cleanup initiatives across European and APAC and supports regional projects for Europe entities, contributing to improved efficiency, standardisation, and control.

In addition, the role has a dotted line reporting to the Financial Accounting Manager – EMEA as they will also provide interim support for Record-to-Report (R2R) activities in the EMEA region, ensuring continuity of critical finance operations during periods of absence.

Please note the working hours for this role are 12pm to 8pm, Monday – Friday.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support BS lead with balance sheet cleanup initiatives, including resolving legacy balances, correcting mis-postings, and addressing process gaps.
  • Maintain reconciliation schedules, trackers, and status reporting to ensure timely delivery in line with reporting deadlines.
  • Monitor and follow up with entity accountants on open items, ensuring proper justification, ageing control, and timely clearance of balances.
  • Lead and support project-based balance sheet and reporting cleanup activities for European entities, ensuring alignment with global standards and timelines.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams (R2R, P2P, FP&A, Treasury, and Group Finance) to resolve issues and improve data quality.
  • Identify, assess, and escalate risks, unusual balances, and control deficiencies.
  • Ensure compliance with accounting standards, internal policies, and audit requirements.
  • Provide interim backup support for EMEA R2R activities (e.g., during maternity leave), including month-end close, journal postings, and reporting tasks.
  • Support internal and external audit requests/coordination with accurate and timely documentation when required
  • Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives, including automation, standardisation, and process optimisation.
  • Support knowledge sharing and best practice adoption within the team.
  • Carry out Ad Hoc duties and tasks allocated at the discretion of management and that are within the capabilities and scope of the post.

Required Skills

  • Qualified Accountant with 5 years minimum commercial accounting experience preferably in multinational company
  • Proven experience in financial management, with a focus on balance sheet analysis.
  • Strong knowledge of IFRS accounting principles, financial statements, and regulatory requirements.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with attention to detail and proactive in resolving discrepancies in a timely manner.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with diverse teams.
  • Proficiency in financial software and Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Excel.
  • Strong interpersonal skills; able to build trust and rapport with all stakeholders
  • Excellent analytical and detailed problem-solving skills; able to identify issues and develop effective solutions.
  • Effective organisational and time management skills, with the ability to manage both BAU and project work.
  • Ability to work independently, prioritise and work under a tight schedule, flexible approach to move between tasks continuously and demonstrable experience of working in a fast-paced environment with proven success.
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills for conveying internal control and risk matters to diverse stakeholders globally
  • Ability to speak English fluently and significant experience of working across cultures and borders globally.
  • Experience with SUN & Cognos Controller system would be useful but not essential
  • Willing to work partially during EMEA hours from 12pm – 8pm
