Charles Taylor is seeking a Lead Network Engineer to join its cross-functional global operations team in a hands-on technical role with a strong focus on Fortinet network security services, SD-WAN, and cloud networking.

This role is responsible not only for day-to-day engineering and operational support, but also for acting as a the technical owner for key elements of the global Fortinet estate.

The successful candidate will lead technical investigations, support major incidents, perform root cause analysis, drive service improvements, evaluate new capabilities through proofs of concept, and work closely with internal stakeholders and third-party partners to maintain a secure, resilient, and supportable network environment.

Charles Taylor is a cloud-first organisation with significant services hosted in Microsoft Azure and AWS. This role participates in a scheduled on-call rota for major incidents and critical service support.

 

Key Responsibilities

  • Act as the technical owner for the global Fortinet network security platform, including service standards, design input, lifecycle planning, and operational quality
  • Define and maintain Fortinet FortiGate standards, platform governance, and lifecycle direction
  • Configure, support, and troubleshoot Fortinet technologies including FortiGate, FortiManager, FortiAnalyzer, FortiClient EMS, and SD-WAN
  • Lead proofs of concept, pilot implementations, and technical assessments for new network and security capabilities
  • Work directly with Fortinet, carriers, managed service providers, and other third parties to resolve issues, improve service quality, and support platform evolution
  • Act as a senior escalation point for complex network incidents across the global estate
  • Lead detailed technical troubleshooting and full-stack diagnostics to identify root cause and drive permanent corrective actions
  • Produce high-quality technical documentation including standards, diagrams, implementation procedures, operational runbooks, and RCA reports
  • Support and maintain cloud networking services across Azure and AWS, including firewalls, VPN connectivity, routing, segmentation, load balancing, and secure access controls
  • Configure and troubleshoot site-to-site IPSec VPNs and hybrid connectivity between branch, datacentre, cloud, and third-party environments
  • Support global branch networking, including WAN circuit activation, migration, decommissioning, and fault resolution
  • Patch, upgrade, and maintain network infrastructure in line with security and support lifecycle requirements
  • Work closely with cross-functional infrastructure, cloud, security, and service teams to deliver operational stability and new business solutions
  • Contribute to change planning, implementation governance, and technical review of network-related changes
  • Mentor other engineers and promote engineering best practice across the team
  • Carry out ad hoc duties and tasks that are allocated to you at the discretion of management and that are within your capabilities and within the scope of your post.

Required Skills

  • Fortinet NSE 7, FCSS, or equivalent senior-level hands-on experience
  • Extensive enterprise experience with FortiGate, FortiManager, FortiAnalyzer, FortiClient EMS, and Fortinet SD-WAN
  • Strong experience in network troubleshooting, major incident support, and root cause analysis in complex production environments
  • Experience leading technical proofs of concept and assessing new solutions for production adoption
  • Experience working directly with vendors, service providers, and support partners to drive technical outcomes
  • Strong understanding of routing, switching, VPNs, segmentation, high availability, and firewall policy design
  • Experience with enterprise networking in Azure and AWS cloud environments
  • Experience with WAN circuit delivery, migrations, and operational support
  • Strong documentation skills, including diagrams, standards, and technical procedures
  • Self-directed and capable of working effectively in a fast-paced global environment while managing multiple priorities and deadlines
