OVERALL PURPOSE OF JOB

 

The International Loss Adjuster will provide day-to-day loss investigations and adjusting, marketing and business development assistance and claim management support primarily in the field of Property, Casualty and Special Risks, based in Charles Taylor Adjusting’s Miami office.

 

Open to candidates who are willing to relocate to Miami, FL.

 

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES AND ACCOUNTABILITIES

 

The authority for each of the following responsibilities will increase as the level of the position progresses.

 

  • To receive instructions on new losses from UK, European, USA and Latinamerican Markets and report to the manager with recommendations for personal intervention in following the terms and particulars of such instructions.

 

  • To carry out a pre-agreed Brief relating to the loss adjusting assignment under consideration and to report to manager upon completion and/or during the execution of the Brief when professional guidance is required.  Such assignments may be performed as a desktop project or may require domestic or international travel at short notice.

 

  • To assist manager and the existing Miami team with inflow of new losses and claims management projects.

 

  • To assist manager and the Miami team with occasional special projects that may fall outside the sphere of standard loss adjusting, such as reinsurance reviews, coverholder audits, expert witness intervention and other consultancy assignments.

 

  • To review assignment or project-related documentation in Spanish, summarising into English when required, and advise manager and Miami team on relevance to the case under consideration and make recommendations accordingly.
  • To assist the USA adjusting offices in the identification of new business opportunities and acquisition of new accounts by means of accompanied marketing.

 

  • To communicate with Underwriters, Reinsurers and Brokers to ensure that customer service standards are met and maintained at all times.

 

  • To ensure compliance with reporting deadlines and delivery of other time-sensitive materials.

 

  • To assist manager and Miami team with any other operational or administrative issues associated with Miami case load on an as-required basis.

 

  • To assist manager and Miami team with marketing and business development, including attendance at designated meetings, seminars and conferences, including, but not limited to, reinsurer and broker events during the February Miami reinsurance week.

 

  • To assume responsibility for his/her own portfolio of claims and other consultancy assignments to be case managed by his/herself under the mentorship of manager or another designated senior adjuster, according to the nature of the assignment.

 

  • To build up an Underwriter, Reinsurer and Broker client base developed from managed cases, client contact and attendance at meetings and events.

 

 

 

DIMENSIONS

 

Charles Taylor Adjusting provides high quality independent loss adjustment and reinsurance consultancy services and also intervenes in other areas of insurance and reinsurance where claim-related expertise is required.  Charles Taylor Adjusting receives instructions from insurers, reinsurers, brokers and captives but acts impartially on all assignments received.  The post-holder will be responsible for providing high quality service to our clients strictly in accordance with instructions, guidelines, established standards and authorisation provided by David Perry.

 

 

 

NATURE AND SCOPE

 

The individual will be responsible for meeting personal development, teamwork, marketing and invoicing targets set by the company, which are jointly intended to enhance the performance of the individual and result in benefit to Charles Taylor Adjusting and clients.  The position also involves meeting with senior personnel within insurance, reinsurance and broking organisations accompanied initially by the manager or other Miami senior adjusters but subsequently such meetings may be unaccompanied, subject to satisfactory progress within the position.

KEY PERFORMANCE MEASURES

 

Work Proficiency    The post holder must demonstrate the ability to meet deadlines and perform under pressure.  The successful candidate must be proactive and able to work with management guidance and demonstrate self-driven initiative thereafter.  He/she must demonstrate good personal management and be capable of managing the workload relating to various cases and marketing projects simultaneously.

 

Oral Communication    Excellent oral communication skills in English and Spanish are required in this role for dealing with clients, Insureds and brokers.  Knowledge of Portuguese would be beneficial in view of assignments arising in Brazil.

 

Written Communication       The post holder will be responsible for preparing reports and other written communications in English and sometimes in Spanish.  Fluency in all aspects of written communication in English is critical to this role.  Good written Spanish is essential.

 

Problem Solving      The position requires the ability to deal with a variety of tasks and deadlines simultaneously, recommending practical solutions within the scope of the level of the position.

 

Job Knowledge     He/she will have knowledge of insurance, reinsurance and loss adjusting principles in Property and Casualty classes, which will be developed further by mentored coaching.  He/she will also have some knowledge of the local insurance industry in USA and selective Latinamerican and Caribbean territories, as well as the London Market, and will be expected to use and improve this knowledge for the purpose of successful assignment handling and marketing.

 

Interpersonal                              Good communication and interpersonal skills are critical to this

                                                   role.

 

 

 

KEY SKILLS – TECHNICAL

 

Charles Taylor adjusting operates in a Windows 7 and Microsoft Exchange environment, soon to be upgraded to Windows 10, so experience of Excel, PowerPoint and especially Word to a high level is crucial for this position.

 

 

EXPERIENCE/QUALIFICATIONS

 

Adjuster:   Ideally educated to Bachelor degree level with at least 1 year’s international adjusting experience.  The candidate must hold a Florida driver’s license and passport from country of nationality, acquire a Florida State 620 All Lines Adjuster license, pursue continued education to maintain the licence and be prepared to study for any additional professional qualifications deemed necessary by the company.
